The Focus Puller Role

The Focus Puller, or 1st Assistant Camera, maintains critical focus during every take — often on moving subjects, at wide apertures, where the margin for error is a few centimetres. They also run the camera department practically: building the camera, managing lenses, coordinating the 2nd AC, and troubleshooting anything technical. It is a role judged almost entirely on invisible success. A perfect pull is unnoticed; a soft take is obvious to everyone watching the monitor.
